Total Literacy/Total Learning teachers are either part of a whole school initiative, or voluntarily become involved in an implementation. We do not advocate forcing resistant teachers to attend training, however reluctant teachers often become our most enthusiastic and involved participants. There are multiple levels of involvement, outlined in Total Learning and Total Literacy.
Total Literacy/Total Learning training has been, and can be offered for graduate credit. Levels I, II, and III are sequential courses that engage teachers in professional growth and reflective practice over a number of years. Using the course at Westminster Choir College of Rider University as a model, and modifying to meet your needs and wishes, we will help you arrange to offer a similar course, using a title such as “Interactive Arts for Total Literacy,” or “Multi-Sensory Learning and Literacy in the Elementary Classroom.” Syllabi are provided, and an appropriate number of hours is planned to accommodate the requirements for credit.
Total Literacy/Total Learning embedded professional development is also available for continuing education units (CEUs) necessary for salary advancement.
We welcome any teacher to register and attend Total Learning classes wherever they are held, independent of your school district. Please let us know that you are registered so we are certain to bring sufficient materials.
Potential and current trainers are invited to apply for the Trainer’s Certification Workshop held during the summer. The 2010 Summer Trainer’s Certification and Recertification Workshop will be held the week of July 12.
